AOHIS returns to Madrid in January 2024

Spain: The second Atlantic Ocean Hotel Investors’ Summit (AOHIS) will take place on 22-23 January 2024 at the NH Collection Eurobuilding hotel in Madrid.

Organised by HOFTEL, AOHIS will return for its second year in Madrid early next year. The event focusses on hotel real estate investors, developers and franchisees with discussion topics ranging from whether “lifestyle” is so over-used that it has lost its meaning, to whether local operator should team up with global brands.

Speakers include Javier Aguilá (group president, EMEA, Hyatt Hotels), Dillip Rajakarier (group CEO and CEO of Minor International and Minor Hotels), Javier Arús (managing partner – Hotels of Azora), as well as Spanish hoteliers including Ramón Aragonés (CEO, NH Hotel Group), Jordi Ferrer (CEO, Grupo Inversor Hesperia), José Rodriguez (CEO, Sercotel Hotel Group), Emilio Iráculis (CEO, Silken Hoteles), Bernat Vicens (CEO, Fergus Group), Federico Holzmann (global director of development, investment and asset management, Catalonia Hotels), and María Zarraluqui (global development VP, Meliá).

Investors attending include Blackstone, Brookfield, KSL, Swiss Life, Union Investment, CapMan, Bain, Hova, Explorer Investments, Boscalt, Pandox, Blasson, Covivio, Arsenale, Tristan, Cedar Capital, Invesco, CPG Real Estate, IREMIS, InvestiRe, Borealis and DEKA.

Simon Allison, CEO of HOFTEL, said: “This is a very uncertain time for the hotel sector. Record results for many properties are combined with headwinds from operating costs, interest rates and geopolitical strife, making both deals and budgets challenging. Owners see bottom lines eroding and the prospect of heavy ESG compliance costs coming down the road. Equity investors, struggling to make deals stack up, are becoming lenders and in some cases getting double-digit returns. Everything is in flux. There is a lot to discuss!”
