CEO Lai steps down from GHM

Singapore: Tommy Lai is to step down from his role as CEO of luxury hospitality brand General Hotel Management.

Lai joined GHM in 2018 and since then has supported the opening of The Chedi Katara in Doha and signed three properties in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – The Chedi Hegra, The Chedi Wadi Safar, and The Chedi Trojena.

The decision to depart GHM is said to have stemmed from Lai’s desire to “re-evaluate his career trajectory”. It follows months of “careful planning and collaboration” with the company’s ownership and leadership.

An official announcement regarding the appointment of a new CEO is expected in early November.

Speaking about his departure, Lai said: “It comes with a heavy heart, but I take solace in the knowledge that GHM is in excellent shape, and its future remains bright. I have had the privilege of building a dedicated and capable team during my tenure as CEO. The team is well-prepared and committed to supporting our hotels and owners during the transition period until the new CEO takes the reins.”

Established in 1992, GHM conceptualises, develops and operates a worldwide group of hotels and resorts. Its portfolio consists of four brands: The Chedi, The Chedi Club, Ahn Luh and The Serai.
