Hotel AKA Alexandria appoints managing director

US: Luxury property Hotel AKA Alexandria has named Christopher Saputo as its managing director.

With over 21 years of experience in luxury hospitality, Saputo has previously worked with brands including Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, Four Seasons Hotels, Waldorf Astoria, and Fairmont. Prior to joining AKA, he was resort manager at Rosewood Miramer Beach Resort.

Saputo will be responsible for the daily operations of Hotel AKA Alexandria, which is located in Old Town Alexandria in Washington DC. The hotel has been designed by Piero Lissoni and marks the designer’s first US hotel project.

It features 180 rooms, two dining venues, a conference centre and ballroom, a ground floor fitness centre with Technogym equipment, and a cinema.

The hotel opened in April this year. At the time, AKA CEO Larry Korman said: “The opening of Hotel AKA Alexandria brings a distinctive new experience to Alexandria, unlike any hotel the city has offered before. Together with our partners, we’ve created a modern hotel with sophisticated design, bespoke amenities and services, while paying tribute to the rich history of Old Town to bring a new wave of travellers to the city.”

AKA’s latest opening in Alexandria marks the sixteenth property in the portfolio. It joins AKA White House, also located in the Greater Washington area.
