US: Independent hotel operator and developer Uncommon Hospitality is set to open the Longfellow Hotel in Maine this September and has named Matt Plourde as general manager.
Plourde will lead the hotel’s opening and will oversee the day-to-day operations, guest services, and community outreach initiatives.
Prior to joining The Longfellow, Plourde held a senior role with Starbucks and was responsible for the company’s New England business units.
Speaking about his appointment, Plourde said: “I’m thrilled to be joining the Uncommon Hospitality team to launch The Longfellow at such an exciting time for this city. As a lifelong Mainer, I’ve always appreciated our state’s idyllic, simple pastimes like hiking with my dogs, skiing at Sugarloaf, or enjoying an IPA at one of our fantastic breweries. It’s truly an honouur to be putting Maine, and Portland in particular, on the map with this elevated hotel project, and continue serving this entirely unique and passionate community.”
The five-storey, 48-room hotel has been designed by Post Company alongside Archetype Architects. It features a spa, two food and beverage venues, and will debut as a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
Portland restauranteurs Siobhán and Mike Sindoni, owners of the Wayside Tavern, will operate both dining venues: the wellness-focused Twinflower Café and the lobby bar Five of Club.
