Millennium Hotels UK achieves Green Tourism accreditation

UK: Global hospitality group Millennium Hotels and Resorts (MHR) has achieved the Green Tourism accreditation for all its owned and managed properties in the United Kingdom.

Green Tourism is a sustainability accreditation and consultancy. Its global membership spans the tourism, hospitality, and events sectors, including visitor attractions.

Nine MHR properties within the UK, including The Chelsea Harbour Hotel & Spa and Millennium Gloucester Hotel London Kensington, have received silver accreditation. The remaining nine properties have earned the bronze accreditation.

According to the Green Tourism website, bronze businesses are “typically in the early stages of their green journey… currently implementing a range of measures across the sustainability goals”. Silver businesses “demonstrate good practices across all the sustainability goals and have an action plan for improvements”.

At MHR, the group has introduced the Millennium Green Path initiative, having established a science-based target to achieve a 27 per cent reduction in Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 with a 2017 base line.

Other initiatives include the group’s Millennium Green Meetings commitment, which emphasises the elimination of single-use plastics, paperless events, digital signage, and the use of glass or reusable water bottles for filtered water. It also promotes carbon budgeting for events and utilises features such as LED lighting and temperature control in meeting spaces to reduce carbon footprint.
